The LMEGA’s Spring Meeting for the Silver Challenge Trophy, the oldest trophy in the cabinet, dating from 1905, was held at Berkhamsted on Friday. Unbelievably, having driven through the mother and father of rainstorms, the entire day was bathed in sunshine and the course played beautifully. Those who missed the day can only blame themselves. The turnout was once again poor, placing this important meeting in jeopardy, and all members are asked to comment on why they do not turn out. A survey form will be available shortly.

The match was played with nice warm sunshine, unfortunately the golf on the Committee side was not as hot.
The morning singles resulted in victories for James Haines (over Alex Heath) and Steven Spencer (over Barry Watson) for the Committee and victories for the members as follows: Bill Smit (over Chris Jones) Derek Raphael (over Martin Prevezer) Garry Jones (over Ashok Singhania) David Manners (over Colin Griffith) Neal Avent (over Richard O’Neill) The afternoon matches resulted in a win for James and Ashok over David Manners and Barry Watson with the other two matches resulting in an honourable half and a defeat. Thus unfortunately it was the morning singles which let the Committee down. |
