Autumn Meeting - Porters Park

24/9/2015

There is hardly a better time to play golf in England than the early autumn. Porters Park was playing beautifully, with greens that held after the overnight rain, but still run on the fairways. Anyone who missed the day missed a treat. It is hard to know what will get people away from their screens for a day if it isn’t the benefit of fresh air, a superb course, good food and the possibility of winning the prestigious Gold Cup.

The morning singles produced a thrillingly close result, with Alex Heath coming in third on 33 points and Captain Richard O’Neill with 35 points runner-up to new member Adam Solomons on a countback over the back nine. Adam picks up the Gold Cup at his first attempt.

The guest prize was won by Dominic Boyle with 29 points on a countback from Mike Gatrell.

The afternoon round was divided into those playing foursomes for the Charles Davis Salver for present and former Category One and Two companies, and those playing Greensomes. The Greensomes prize went to Mike Gatrell and Adam Solomons.

The Charles Davis Salver went to Brian Woodbridge and Alex Heath representing Metallgesellschaft.

Two other trophies were won on the day – The Aggregate Cup for the best combined scores at the Spring and Autumn Meetings does require that players turn up for both events. This reduced the field to only a few candidates and the winner was Seamus O’Connell with a total of 56 points.

The Johnson Pot for best score by a 16-and-over handicap was won by Adam Solomons playing off 20.
